Welcome to Merriam Park Neighbors for Peace!
"Don't look for a moment of total triumph.
See it as an ongoing struggle, with victories and defeats, but in the
long run the consciousness of people growing. So you need patience, persistence,
and need to understand that even when you don't 'win,' there is fun and
fulfillment in the fact that you have been involved, with other good people,
in something worthwhile."
– Howard Zinn
Mission Statement
Merriam Park Neighbors for Peace is a grassroots group
of neighbors from the Merriam Park neighborhood in St. Paul, Minnesota,
who came together in February 2003 to share information and speak out
with a unified voice against the war on Iraq. We are dedicated to pursuing
peaceful, non-violent solutions to conflict, promoting social justice
and tolerance, conserving natural resources and the environment, and protecting
human rights and civil liberties worldwide.
PEACE Goals
To support and promote these important, interrelated causes,
Merriam Park Neighbors for Peace sponsors public events
and activities. Members are encouraged to propose events that meet
our PEACE Goals:
| P |
Participate in the political process
An event or activity that satisfies this goal will
influence candidates, elected officials, or voters, or will otherwise
support the political process.
|
| E |
Educate ourselves and others
An event or activity that satisfies this goal will
raise awareness of a specific peace/justice issue that impacts local,
state, national, or international communities. |
| A |
Actively serve our world
An event or activity that satisfies this goal will
provide concrete goods, services, or funds that meet a social, humanitarian,
or environmental need. |
| C |
Connect and cooperate with other communities or
efforts
An event or activity that satisfies this goal will
create, grow, or sustain relationships with other groups, supporting
collaborative projects and mutual understanding. |
| E |
Energize, equip, and empower our members and organization
An event or activity that satisfies this goal will
foster appreciation for the strengths and needs of our members,
sustain our sense of community and friendship, and/or inspire new
members to participate. This may include investing in skill-building
activities or tools for our members. |
Join Us!
If you are interested in cooperating with others to promote
peace and justice causes, discussing current events, making connections
to other Twin Cities peace/justice organizations, and having fun too,
please stop by one of our regular meetings or events! You don't have to
live in Merriam Park — or even St. Paul — to participate.
